Released in 1998, The Winchester Sessions features eight catchy, memorable original songs by brothers Bill and Joe Carey. The recordings were made in several recording studios in Chicago over the course of two years and the practice sessions for the songs were held in the unoccupied second floor of a greystone walk-up two-flat on Winchester Avenue in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago where the Carey brothers’ grandparents lived for many years. After this recording, the Carey brothers, who both had young sons, started to write songs for children, which eventually resulted in two CD’s of original children’s songs called “The Caboose is Loose” and “Mighty Big Broom,” the latter of which garnered two first-voting-round Grammy nominations.
